Manuel Antonio Carreño (Caracas, 1812 – Paris, 1874) was a Venezuelan musician, educator, and diplomat, known for his influence on education and social etiquette in Latin America. He founded the Roscio College and translated works such as the Reasoned, Historical, and Dogmatic Catechism by Abbot Thériou and the Introduction to the Method for Studying the Latin Language by Jean-Louis Burnouf. Additionally, he held positions such as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Finance in Venezuela.

His most emblematic work is the Manual of Civility and Good Manners (1853), also known as the "Carreño's Manual", which became a reference for behavior and decorum in the Spanish-speaking world. This manual, covering everything from moral duties to etiquette rules, was widely disseminated and adopted in educational institutions across various countries. Among his other publications stands out the Compendium of the Manual of Civility and Good Manners (1863), an abbreviated version of his main work. Although he did not receive formal awards, his legacy endures as a significant influence on the shaping of values and manners in Latin American society.
