José Luis Brea was a professor of Aesthetics and Theory of Contemporary Art at Carlos III University of Madrid. Director, among others, of the magazine "Estudios Visuales" and the digital publication "::salonKritik::", correspondent in Spain for "Artforum" and "FlashArt", director of the Visual Studies collection at Akal Editions, curator of exhibitions, art critic, and member of the advisory board of the ARTNODES project, his professional career, also closely linked to ARCO and CENDEAC, has left a broad legacy of publications, among which it is worth highlighting "Las auras frías" (1991), "La era postmedia" (2002), "El tercer umbral" (2003), "Noli me legere. The rhetorical approach and the primacy of allegory in contemporary art" (2007), "cultura_RAM. mutations of culture in the era of its electronic distribution" (2007) and "The three ages of the image" (2010), in addition to being the editor responsible for "Visual Studies. The epistemology of visuality in the era of globalization" (2005).
