E. Nelson Bridwell
E. Nelson Bridwell (September 22, 1931 – January 23, 1987) was a key American scriptwriter and editor in the history of DC Comics during the Silver Age. Born in Oklahoma, from a young age he showed great interest in mythology, science fiction, and comics. He began his career writing for MAD Magazine before joining DC Comics in 1965 as assistant to editor Mort Weisinger.
Bridwell stood out for his extensive knowledge of the DC universe, which made him the main person in charge of maintaining internal consistency among stories and characters. He was known for his role as the “continuity cop” within the publisher.
As a scriptwriter, he co-created series such as The Inferior Five, The Secret Six, and Angel and the Ape. He also wrote stories for iconic characters like Superman, Shazam, the Legion of Super-Heroes, and the Super Friends. He was the editor of significant publications, including The World of Krypton, considered the first DC miniseries.
