Rachel Rooney
Rachel Rooney is a British author and poet born in London, the fifth of six siblings. She currently lives in Brighton, East Sussex, with her two dogs, Woody and Buzz. Before dedicating herself to literature, she worked for many years as a teacher for children with special needs, while raising her three children.

Her first children's poetry book, The Language of Cat, was published in 2011 and received the CLPE Poetry Award in 2012. It was also shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Her second book, My Life as a Goldfish, was shortlisted for the CLiPPA Poetry Award in 2015.

In 2018, she published A Kid in My Class, a collection of poems illustrated by Chris Riddell that offers a fun and moving view of school life. This book was shortlisted for the CLiPPA Poetry Award in 2019 and won the North Somerset Teacher's Book Award in the poetry category.

In addition to her work as an author, Rooney conducts school visits for creative writing workshops and has participated in literary festivals like The Children’s Bookshow.

Her work is characterized by its lyrical style and her ability to address complex topics with sensitivity and humor, connecting with readers of all ages.
