Shantideva
Shantideva lived in the great monastic university of Nalanda, possibly between the years 685 and 763 of our era. He is the author of two major works, the splendidly poetic Bodhicharyavatara, “Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life” and the Siksa-Samucchaya, “A Compendium of Teachings”, which consists mostly of quotes from about a hundred Mahayana sutras, many of which can no longer be recovered from any other source.
