William Peter Blatty (1928-2017) was an American writer, screenwriter, and director, best known for his most famous work, The Exorcist (1971), a horror novel that became a literary and cinematic phenomenon. The story, which explores the theme of demonic possession and the battle between good and evil, was successfully adapted into a film in 1973, winning the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
