Synopsis "a history of orange county, virginia, from its formation in 1734 to the end of reconstruction in 1870, compiled mainly from original records. with a"
This is the standard history of Orange County, Virginia, most of whose records have perished. While there are chapters on county courthouses, churches, people and houses, the Germanna Colony, and Orange County's participation in the French and Indian Wars, the Revolution and the Civil War, the genealogical strength of the book lies in its copious appendices. These include a list of persons who imported themselves or were imported into the county between 1736 and 1756, the Orange County census of 1782, and rosters of Orange County men in the Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
