本書選自張植珊教授歷來發表過的文章，分從「憂患教育」，「白沙建校」，「教育與輔導」，「文化與宗教」，「海外僑情與僑教」，「青年輔導與『張老師』」，「追憶與口述歷史」等七個範疇來輯集，共四十三篇，都是作者從事推展教育文化工作嘔心瀝血的經驗，加以構思記述、並抒發心路感言。印證了台灣「教育」、「輔導」、「僑務」與「文化建設」工作推展的艱辛歷程，值得教育研究學界與後進者的參考。 張植珊校長紀事 民國18年 出生於福建。 民國44年 國立臺灣師範大學教育系畢業，先後任教於臺北師院與臺灣師大。 民國47年 兼任海外通訊社採編工作，接觸到許多海外僑情。 民國50年 在菲律賓東方學院校長陳烈甫鼓勵下，毅然前往菲律賓，展開海外任教與留學歲月。 民國54年 取得菲律賓聖約瑟大學教育碩士學位。 民國56年 返國，追隨蔣白、宗亮東教授推展輔導工作，協助救國團創辦「張老師輔導中心」，且在中國輔導學會策劃下，培訓九年國教所需的輔導教師。 民國60年 考試院甲等特考最優錄取，8月，臺灣省立教育學院（彰師大前身）成立，受許校長智偉先生邀約，籌設我國第一個輔導學系（現更名為輔導與諮商學系）並任第一任主任。在任內創建中國輔導運動之父──蔣建白先生紀念館，並成立彰化「張老師」諮商輔導中心。 民國61年3月，許校長智偉先生升任台灣省教育廳長，張前校長植珊先生代理校務。 民國63年4月正式接任，為本校第二任校長，相繼設立特殊教育系、數學系、物理系、化學系、生物系、商教系、語文教學系、輔導、特教、科教研究所等系所，並致力於校地擴展，第二校區整建、校舍營建與校園規劃，奠定了彰化師大永續發展的良好基礎。 民國69年7月改隸中央為國立臺灣教育學院，著手規劃增所設院改制大學。 民國72年 獲得教育部資深績優八德金牌獎章。7月校長任期屆滿，出任行政院文化建設委員會副主委，襄匡國家文化建&
