Das Havelland zahlt zu den markanten Grosslandschaften Norddeutschlands. In seinen Grundstrukturen wurde es von der letzten Eiszeit gestaltet. Die vielfaltigen eiszeitlichen Spuren sind heute noch als pragende Landschaftselemente gut zu erkennen. Aber auch der Mensch hatte starken Einfluss auf das Landschaftsbild, etwa durch die Trockenlegung des Havellandischen Luchs. So stellt sich das Havelland heute auch als eine wichtige Agrarlandschaft dar. Von grosser Bedeutung fur die zukunftige Entwicklung des Landschaftsbildes und der okologischen Verhaltnisse ist die Renaturierung der Unteren Havel. Wahrend die Dorfer bis heute ihr ursprungliches Erscheinungsbild bewahren konnten, haben sich mit Rathenow und Premnitz zwei bedeutende Industriestadte entwickelt, die jeweils ein eigenes industrielles Profil aufbauen konnten.
