Der rote Planet ist eine moderne sozialistische Utopie, in der auch feministische Themen präsent sind. Aus dem Buch: "Ich hoffte, mich an die neue Arbeit zu gewöhnen und mich dann mit allen Arbeitern messen zu können. Aber das war nicht so. Immer mehr musste ich einsehen, dass es mir an der Fähigkeit zur Konzentration mangelte. Körperliche Leistung wurde nur wenig verlangt, an Schnelligkeit und Gewandtheit stand ich anderen nicht nach, übertraf sogar viele. Aber ich musste ununterbrochen und konzentriert auf Maschinen und Material achten, was mir sehr schwer fiel."
