Synopsis "Diplomacy in Postwar British Literature and Culture (The Fairleigh Dickinson University Press Series in Modernism & the Avant-Garde)"
In Diplomacy in Postwar British Literature and Culture, Krzakowski examines representations of international relations in fiction and non-fiction by Rebecca West, Lawrence Durrell, Olivia Manning, and John le Carré, and in the films of Alfred Hitchcock respond to the political instability of the postwar period. This study argues that the codes and protocols of diplomatic practice have shaped modern British fiction and film, and that diplomatic papers and protocols offer a new way to trace the continuities between geopolitics and cultural production in the aftermath of the Second World War.
