「玟瑰紅似火」是作者的第三本文集。他以風趣而生動的文筆，與讀者分享他對亭園的愛好，人生的回顧、親人的互動、對教育的關注、欣賞中華文藝及菜饌之美、暢遊天涯海角、嚐試科普文體，及因為新冠肺炎期間很多文章都帶著疫情的氣息。篇篇字裏行間，寫出他對詩歌、戲曲、文學、美食的喜好，及對人生的熱愛和關懷。全書共有散文六十三篇，有獨特的主題和內容。其中收集了一篇居住馬來西亞的妹妹與其表妹的故事，以顯示她們在南洋的生活。夏勁戈，抗戰開始後不久生於安徽省。少時因戰亂，輾轉大江南北。安居台灣後，在台南上中學，在台大念機械系。赴美深造，獲得 Purdue 大學機械工程博士學位。曾主編中國同學會季刋"普渡鐘聲"。任職美國國家標準及技術研究院，從事分光光度研究及服務工業界。並曾任國際照明協會總會長。作者愛與同好共事學習。曾任博城中文學校校長，華府書友會會長。常常參加書友會、華府中國文史讀書會、及作家協會等網路集會。作者退休後也品嚐回饋社會的樂趣。曾任華盛頓美國航空與太空博物館之義工解說員，現任馬州䝉郡義工園藝大師，在其植物診所義務服務。期望繼續學習，成長，並服務他人。多年來也參與孫輩的中文教育。此外，勤於寫作，二〇一六年出版第一本散文集「蔚蔚乎銀杏」，二〇二〇出版第二本散文集「紅梅朵朵開」。
