Synopsis "Judo: Self Taught in Pictures"
The object of this book is to instruct the reader in the use of Judo in self-defence. For this reason, the author, who has a very enviable knowledge of this particular section of the art, lays emphasis on bone-locks and strangle-holds, coupled with defences against them. He has deliberately avoided the use of the orthodox technical terms which might be confusing to the newcomer to Judo, and certainly this omission by no means detracts from the value of his book. Judo is a fighting sport, calling for courage and endurance, but it also teaches both mental and physical control and balance. Divided into sections that cover defenses against various weapons (knife, cudgel, gun, etc.) and a heavy emphasis on breaking out of various locks (wrist, arm, body, etc.) this book is designed with self-defense in mind. With over 500 line-drawn illustrations the methods for each technique is clearly explained and illustrated. The result is an invaluable book for the beginner, practicing either on his own or at his club. This practical guide will enable any physically normal person, practising with reasonable diligence, to develop in a short time the speed and finesse necessary for mastering the science of Jiu-Jitsu.
