Synopsis "No Stopping us now"
Class of '75 high schooler Louisa loves to play basketball and asks her school to start a girls basketball team. Little does she know that she'll soon be viciously targeted by the male coaches at her high school, or that she'll fall in love--a couple of times--as she fights for a fair chance to be an athlete. Based on the author's true story, seventeen-year-old Louisa wants to play basketball, but it's 1974 and the public schools in Portland, Oregon don't offer teams for girls. In a chance encounter with the famous feminist Gloria Steinem, Louisa learns about Title IX, the recently passed law that promises equal opportunities for girls, and she sets out to win a girls' basketball league for her city's public schools. The journey toward equality for girls in her high school and city takes her far beyond basketball. No Stopping Us Now is a story about finding one's own voice through the joys of sports, love, and the power of sisterhood.
