Le llamamos Cimarrnería poética no solo porque su autor fue uno de los miembros más importantes del movimiento cimarrón en Colombia, sino porque también estos poemas enuncian y evocan el pensamiento cimarrón que cuestiona y señala, con rigor, las herencias del sistema esclavista que no permite que los afrocolombianos sean verdaderamente libres en Colombia.
