Enriquillo, que se escribe y se publica en la mejor época de las letras dominicanas durante el siglo XIX, la que va de 1873 a 1900, es el único libro de Galván, y consumió muchos años de su activa existencia. Ni antes había escrito otro, ni otro escribió después aunque sí muchos excelentes artículos. Su Enriquillo es obra de muchos años, ocho o diez. Se publica incompleta en 1879; íntegra en 1882. El autor la llama leyenda, curioso nombre que en la España y la América del Romanticismo se daba a obras de imaginación tejidas con hilos de historia. Pedro Henríquez Ureña
