La lucidez característica de Kurt Tucholsky transforma las anécdotas aparentemente más banales en reflexiones sobre la naturaleza humana, alegatos contra la guerra y el, nacionalismo, burlándose de la pedantería, la burocracia y las convenciones. “Entre el ayer y el mañana”, cuya selección de textos fue realizada por la esposa del autor, analiza cómo vivían el día a día los ciudadanos alemanes de entreguerras, con una ironía y una comicidad que no ocultan el horror que se gestaba. Considerado por Hitler como uno de los representantes de la decadente literatura urbana (la que llamaron «literatura del asfalto»), Tucholsky sufrió los efectos de la represión nazi, que intentó silenciar esta voz tan singular.
