Esta se estudia en relación con las silvas de Quevedo, género poético vinculado con la tradición clásica y humanística, pero que el autor reescribió siguiendo el nuevo código conceptista imperante en el siglo XVII. En esta colección de poemas se encuentran algunos de los textos más modernos, innovadores y ambiciosos de Quevedo, donde entabla un diálogo abierto con disciplinas y cuestiones como la pintura, la astronomía, el mito de los inventores, el progreso tecnológico y la mnemotecnia. A su vez, esta variedad de estímulos se traduce también en las numerosas imitaciones de obras italianas, francesas y neolatinas en las silvas, que sitúan al escritor español en la encrucijada entre el Renacimiento y el Barroco.
