Las mujeres extranjeras en Esdras 9-10 no tienen voz, ni nombre. Tampoco se les atribuye ninguna acción, ni siquiera rasgos corporales o de personalidad. Las conocemos únicamente a través de las voces masculinas que disputan su presencia en la comunidad. Esta actitud hacia las mujeres extranjeras revela, en el fondo, cómo la comunidad se percibe a sí misma, el contexto en el que se encuentra, su interpretación de la realidad y el ideal hacia el que apunta. Este fenómeno de exclusión se repite de diversas formas a lo largo del Antiguo Testamento, en particular en los textos post-exílicos. El título, La mujer como extranjera en Israel, identifica la propuesta fundamental de esta investigación, a saber, el estudio de cómo, en la figura de la mujer, se personifica la extranjeridad, tanto cultural, como religiosa, étnica y de género. En un mundo definido a partir de lo masculino, la mujer siempre es, inevitablemente, extranjera.
