De 64 años, es oncólogo en el servicio público de salud francés que trabaja en el Hospital de París (AP-HP), adscrito a la Escuela Politécnica.
Número uno en su promoción en la Facultad de Medicina de Estrasburgo, más tarde se diplomó en radioterapia oncológica en la Universidad de Harvard (American Boards), y empezó a ejercer su carrera como médico en Estados Unidos, donde residió durante siete años, para más tarde regresar a Francia, país en el que sigue trabajando como terapeuta en diversos hospitales públicos de la capital. Schwart, además de dedicarse a sus pacientes, ha orientado su carrera y sus estudios a la investigación del cáncer, para lo que creó, hace cerca de veinte años, un grupo multidisciplinar en la Escuela Politécnica.
