Juan Ortega y Rubio descubrió la autoría del manuscrito, corrigió expresiones (que aparecen en cursiva en la edición facsímil) e hizo diversas anotaciones, pero el nombre de Gallardo no aparece en la portada del libro que entregó a la imprenta en 1886. Después de la publicación del Bradford y la que está prevista de las Memorias del General Thiébault no cabe duda de que pocas instituciones, financieras o no, podrán emular la labor editorial de Caja Duero en e! rescate de las voces de aquel periodo de levantamiento, guerra y revolución, como tituló e!
