It also provides example forms that can be easily photocopied, guidance on how monitoring data can be used to improve water supplies and water handling, and how reporting of information can be used to initiate dialogue with communities.Guy Howard is a Programme Manager at WEDC, Loughborough Universityand was previously Research Fellow and Head of Overseas Projects at theRobens Centre for Public & Environmental Heath, University of Surrey. He isinvolved in the revision of the WHO Guidelines for Drinking-Water Quality asthe Co-ordinator of the Monitoring and Asessment component of the WorkingGroup on Protection and Control of Water Quality. He was based in Uganda for3 years working with the Ministry of Health on the DFID Research Project(R6874) which produced many of the lessons reflected in the manual. He hasundertaken long and short-term assignments in over 20 low and middle-incomecountries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Central Europe, including workingfor ActionAid in Sierra Leone in the early 1990s. The main focus of the editor'swork in the monitoring of water supplies and development of risk assessmentand risk management methods in relation to environmental health.
