Best known for his plays and fiction, Virgilio Pinera (1912 1979) has become in the past two decades a totemic figure for younger Cuban poets, despite the relative paucity of his poetic production. As he said himself, I have always considered myself a casual poet. This is a collection of poems of the author, first published in the book La isla en peso (the Whole Island). Virgilio Pinera, maestro entre maestros, dejo en esta obra valiosas marcas de la rica pluralidad poetica y cultural que atravesaba la lirica cubana desde antes de mediados del siglo xx; clara muestra es que, a la par de que escribia buena parte de estos versos, se editaban las prestigiosas paginas de la revista Origenes. Este es un poemario como el mismo autor eligio darlo a conocer en 1969.
