Numerous bootleg copies of this unclassifiable book circulated bohemian music scenes before its release in 1971. Tarántula combines poetry, prose, and exercises in the practice of automatic writing unsurprising given its Beat Generation context. The book shows Bob Dylan moving away from folk and towards rock, growing more transgressive at every step. 'Tarántula' fue escrito en 1966, pero no vio la luz hasta 1971. Entretanto, circularon distintas copias piratas que potenciaron la mítica en torno a este libro inclasificable. 'Tarántula' combina lírica y prosa en un ejercicio cercano a la escritura automática y está perfectamente sintonizado con el momento en que Dylan lo escribe, que es también el punto álgido de Ginsberg, Kerouac y Burroghs, los grandes nombres de la generación beat.
