Esta obra analiza el discurso místico-literario del poeta nicaragüense Ernesto Cardenal en sus libros Vida en el amor, Vida perdida, Cántico cósmico, Telescopio en la noche oscura y Versos del pluriverso que, hasta hace poco tiempo, había sido habitualmente ignorado por la mayoría de sus críticos. En primer lugar, se impone la inserción de sus textos contemplativos dentro de las corrientes literarias del misticismo universal; y, en segundo, el resalto de sus particularidades discursivas, deudoras de las influencias retóricas y estilísticas de autores como Ezra Pound, Walt Whitman y César Vallejo.
