La obra de Graciela Iturbide es un proceso de continua exploración vital que, a lo largo de cuatro décadas, ha tenido como protagonistas al sueño, el ritual, la religión y el viaje. «Aunque reneguemos de nuestra educación, cargamos con ella, va con nosotros» comenta cuando se le pregunta por su interés por los símbolos y rituales. Y es que la fotógrafa —hoy agnóstica practicante— se formó en un contexto católico y mexicano de origen burgués, donde el símbolo y el rito formaban parte del lenguaje. Moviéndose entre lo documental y lo poético, su singular forma de mirar aúna la vida y el sueño. La naturaleza y la cultura, las tradiciones ancestrales, el rito incorporado a lo cotidiano y la simbología de cualquier objeto, ocupan un lugar central en su obra.
