Rav Berg was born in New York City into a family of scholars and spiritual teachers. After many years of traditional religious studies, he was appointed as a rabbi by the renowned rabbinical seminary Torah VaDaat. He was a businessman who wanted to make a difference in this world, always in search of his true path. After a chance encounter with Rav Yehuda Brandwein, one of the greatest kabbalists of the 20th century, Rav Berg knew he had found his teacher and switched his business life for a chance to study alongside Rav Brandwein at the Kabbalah Center in Israel. After returning to New York, Rav Berg kept in touch through correspondence with Rav Brandwein, who bequeathed his legacy as director of the Kabbalah Center to Rav Berg in a letter before leaving this world
Upon receiving his teacher's responsibility, Rav Berg took on the mission to preserve, reveal, and make relevant the ancient kabbalistic texts. He continued the legacy of the Kabbalah Center by editing, writing, printing, and distributing everything he learned from his master to share with others
Rav Berg democratized the study of Kabbalah by creating a fundamental leveled program to teach all its key concepts and help students gain a greater cognitive awareness of the spiritual system of the universe. His book Kabbalah Initiation was the revolutionary step that made Kabbalah accessible to every individual. Other works by Rav Berg include The Kabbalistic Connection, The Energy of Hebrew Letters, Immortality, The Kabbalah Method (still not translated into Spanish), The Power Within You, The Wheels of the Soul, Taming Chaos (still not translated into Spanish), and The Education of a Kabbalist
He and his wife, Karen Berg, opened the doors of the Kabbalah Center to anyone wishing to know these universal principles. Following Rav Berg's death in September 2013, his son, Michael Berg, and his wife, Monica, continue the work and vision of both as leaders of The Kabbalah Center
