El nombre de Teresa González de Fanning se encuentra indiscutiblemente ligado a la historia de la educación en el Perú. La fundación de la unidad escolar para la educación de mujeres por el gobierno del general Manuel Odría en 1952 rinde, con su nombre, homenaje a la pedagoga ancashina. González de Fanning había fundado y dirigido en el siglo XIX un prestigioso colegio para señoritas (el liceo Fanning a su cargo hasta 1892) para cuyo funcionamiento redactó manuales y organizó programas de estudio
innovadores. Las cuatro novelas aquí reunidas transitan de la visión romántica a una propuesta naturalista donde se desarrollan diferentes conflictos por parte de los protagonistas.
