Coach Laney (his name, not a title) wanted to make a difference in teaching. When his entire class almost flunked one of their main tests due to Coach's unusual teaching methods, the principal gave him the choice of quitting, or going to a small town in Harlan County to teach. What's a man to do? He took up a teaching position at Blossom High School. While teaching the entire senior class of 35 students, he gets thrust into the position of basketball coach. It could have been adding insult to injury, considering that Coach Laney always hated sports. Anyone else would have given up, but Coach decided to win in spite of overwhelming odds. And win he did. He took a team (to use the word loosely) that had not won in a game in decades, and easily won the first game! And how did they win it? They did it by running 5 miles up Black Mountain. They won by simply not giving up!
