Adalbert Stifter, der auch unter dem Pseudonym Ostade schrieb, war ein österreichischer Schriftsteller, Maler und Pädagoge. Er zählt heute zu den bekanntesten Autoren des Biedermeier und Österreichs. Als Meister der biedermeiertypischen Naturdarstellung handelte er sich mitunter den Vorwurf ein, letztlich "Heimatromane" zu schreiben und die ländliche Idylle zu idealisieren.
