Hierfür thematisiert der Autor die Kameraführung, das Setting, die Farbe und die Musik. Mit dem Film "A Single Man" gab Modedesigner Tom Ford sein Regiedebüt. Der Film basiert auf dem gleichnamigen Buch von Christopher Isherwood. Filmgeschichtlich lässt sich "A Single Man" in die Moderne einordnen. Interessant ist, dass der Film in das Genre des Melodramas fällt, der Protagonist jedoch männlich ist. In der Regel steht im Melodrama eine Schauspielerin im Fokus. Für die Filmanalyse wurde die englische Originalfassung verwendet.
