Synopsis "Effects of Universities"
Along with contributing to the economic development of the cities, they are built-in universities affect the socio-cultural structure of the society. While university personnel and students contribute to the city economy by their expenditures, they also play a leading role in the socio-cultural development of the city by the social and cultural activities they carry out. One of the universities that have been built after the year 2000 is Kastamonu University. Prior to the establishment of Kastamonu University, there were faculties and vocational schools of Gazi University conducting educational activities in Kastamonu. However, by the foundation of the university, the number of university personnel as well as the students has increased significantly, and the effect of the university on the urbanization has become more evident. The aim of this study is to designate the effects of newly founded universities on the urbanization of the cities they are found in. Hence, Kastamonu University has been selected as the case and the effects of the university on the development of the city have been designated and analyzed.
