Reino de Navarra, siglo XV. Poco antes de morir, en 1441, la reina Blanca I de Navarra había designado en su testamento a su hijo primogénito, Carlos de Trastámara y Évreux, primer Príncipe de Viana, como su heredero y futuro rey. Una cláusula poco clara de la última voluntad de la reina será el detonante del enfrentamiento por el trono entre el hijo y su padre, Juan II. El rey consorte de Navarra, como Trastámara de pura cepa, tiene una ambición política que no conoce límites. Entre el monarca y su hijo se inicia, entonces, una lucha sin cuartel que se verá avivada cuando Juan II, viudo y con cuarenta y nueve años, contraiga nupcias con la castellana Juana Enríquez, una joven agraciada y ambiciosa de veintidós, que le dará un hijo que pasaría a la historia como Fernando el Católico…
