Synopsis "Envelhecimento, estímulos e mudanças no cérebro (in Portuguese)"

Estudou-se possíveis influências ambientais e do envelhecimento sobre aprendizado e memória e a distribuição laminar dos astrócitos do giro denteado. As performances em testes de memória semelhante à episódica e espacial foram correlacionadas à mudanças astrogliais no giro denteado estimadas por método sem viés baseado em estereologia. Em conjunto os dados sugerem que a manutenção dos animais em ambiente pobre em estímulos sensoriomotores e cognitivos pode estar associado com desenvolvimento cognitivo anormal e este com as alterações da distribuição laminar de astrócitos no giro denteado. Considerando que a astrocitose foi o elemento partilhado pelo enriquecimento ambiental e pelo envelhecimento, sugere-se que os astrócitos aumentados numa condição e noutra estejam expressando fenótipos diferentes.
