Tall, skinny, always with a big grin.He had a kind heart, liked to have a few beers, and enjoyed his Marlboro reds, just like I had years ago.You could say I was taking on the family tradition of drinking and smoking, at least until I had problems breathing. Drinking continued for a few more years after the cigarettes became history.I thought of my dad a lot more these days. More than I had before my life went to hell.Every night, just before my eyes closed in sleep, I would hope to be with him, where-ever he was.I was a child of three, yes, three, the last time I had seen him. He was sitting in the living room chair, dressed in a button-down shirt, white t-shirt seen at the collar opening, with pleated, pressed, pants, grinning.It was during the night and I had stood up in my bed yelling, "Daddy! Daddy!" He sat there and smiled.My ma came into the room and settled me down to go back to sleep. I remember her blocking my view of Daddy and when she moved so I could see past her, all I seen was the chair where Daddy had been sitting.It took a while for my ma to console me. I wanted my daddy.
