When I was reading the academic Christian commentaries about Matthew 7:7-12 and the Golden Rule I was concerned that the culture of Jesus' day was not mentioned. The verses that lead up to the Golden Rule, verse 12, do not make sense when read literally in the 21st century. When you understand the culture of Jesus' day verses 7 - 11 make perfect sense. Therefore, I decided to put my analysis of this passage into print so that Christians can learn what Jesus said about the Golden Rule.
