Tunru-Gbere est une cité péage du royaume confédéral de Borgu dont Niki est la capitale politique. Ce péage était situé sur l'axe caravanier Kparaku -Djugu Wangara -Salaga. Grâce à sa fortification, le péage de Tunru a fonctionné jusqu'à la conquête française du Borgu en 1898. ce village dit la Cité des Touré du Borgu est connu pour son rôle géostratégique et sa contribution dans le rayonnement économique de Niki, résidence du Sina Boko, le souverain du Borgu.
