Synopsis "Immunophenotyping of mammary carcinoma"

Introduction: Breast cancer constitutes a group of tumors that show a very diverse biological behavior and great clinical variability. Immunohistochemical classification has great utility in defining the treatment and prognosis of the disease. Objective: The aim of the present investigation was to classify breast carcinomas into immunophenotypes using immunohistochemical markers and to analyze the clinicopathological characteristics of the different immunophenotypes. Conclusions: breast carcinomas with triple negative and Her2/neu immunophenotypes present more unfavorable clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical characteristics that are related to a poorer prognosis while luminal A carcinomas manifest more favorable characteristics that translate into a better prognosis.
