Los trabajos de Jean-Joseph Saroïhandy, pionero en el estudio científico de las lenguas aragonesa y catalana en el Alto Aragón, son del máximo interés, dado lo temprano de su fecha de redacción. Entre 1896 y 1913 el filólogo francés recorrió todo el territorio de la zona norte de Aragón para anotar y registrar expresiones, dichos y palabras de las lenguas de dicha zona.
