From Lent to Christmas, encompassing all four seasons, Father Patrick Barrett recorded his thoughts about the Church, people, and indeed, even the smallest creatures surrounding his rectory at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mancelona, Michigan. Set in the north woods, he looked upon the birds and squirrels as teachers, likening them to people with all their faults and foibles. Struggling against nature when the winter hit and basking in the warmth of the summer sun, these creatures of God fascinated and gave him material for his Sunday bulletins. Every Friday, he sat down and observed nature and gleaned a lesson to be passed on. With more than a touch of humor he recorded events of the late nineteen sixties and early nineteen seventies intermixed with everyday occurrences and painted a picture to be looked at......to recall a time in history......a time in a small northern Michigan town......a time in a new priests life.
