Los bancos comerciales presentan una enorme fragilidad financiera, por ese motivo deben gestionar sus riesgos dentro de un marco de regulación y supervisión prudencial. Para poder supervisar con las debidas garantías, se requiere de políticas públicas que fortalezcan a los organismos supervisores, tanto en términos de incentivos económicos, como en términos de seguridad jurídica y profesional. Con esa perspectiva, en este trabajo se analizan las reformas regulatorias de Basilea desde sus inicios y, en especial, las últimas modificaciones de Basilea III.
