Hacia el año 1527, Lucía Miranda y su esposo, el joven soldado español Sebastián Hurtado, viven en la fortaleza Santo Espíritu, en las orillas del Paraná. Su mejor amigo es Mangora, cacique de los Timbúes, quien se enamora de Lucía y, aprovechando la ausencia de Sebastián, ataca el fuerte y toma cautiva a la infortunada esposa . . . Profesora, escritora y periodista argentina, Rosa Guerra (1834-1864) escribió esta novela corta sobre la heroína mítica Lucía Miranda en quince días, para presentarla en un concurso literario que nunca tuvo lugar. Sus amigos le convencieron a publicarla en 1860 y ha llegado a ser una obra clásica de la literatura argentina.
