Ein Schmuckmuseum sowie Messen und viele ansässige Uhren- und Schmuckunternehmen prägen auch heute das Stadtbild. Ein gebürtiger Pforzheimer sticht in der Goldstadt heraus: Helmut Gommel. Seit 1968 ist er mit seinem Schmuckgro handelsunternehmen AS - Adolf Schweickert ein stetiger Aussteller auf deutschen Schmuckmessen. In seiner Autobiografie Mit hellem Mut gibt er dem Leser einen interessanten Einblick in den Werdegang seines Schmuckbetriebs und erzählt in diesem Zusammenhang seine persönliche Lebensgeschichte, mit all ihren Höhen und Tiefen, all dem Glänzendem und Matten. Der erste von zwei Bänden erzählt von den Kriegsjahren, Helmut Gommels Ausbildung und seiner Berufsfindung, von Trauer und Verlust sowie nicht zuletzt von Freundschaft und Liebe.
