Synopsis "Nature to the Ideal: Ancient Greek Kairos"
The Greek language harbors a unique abstract noun, 'kairos, ' employed to describe various facets of timing in human actions and natural occurrences. Spanning the period from approximately 3000-146 BCE, this dissertation unravels the transformative journey of kairos, evolving from a concept rooted in the Greeks' direct interactions with nature to becoming a specialized term in political and civic discourse. However, as kairos transitions into a language-bound ideal, the danger of static definitions arises, hindering a comprehensive understanding of its dynamic nature. This study refrains from challenging existing definitions but seeks to initiate a historical survey, delving into kairos' fluid state through cross-disciplinary lenses and methodologies. By doing so, it aims to offer a broader comprehension of kairos that extends beyond its idealized versions.
