Each country assess national progress toward the sustainable management of forest resources by using a set of criteria and indicators agreed on by all member countries. Several indicators focus on nontimber forest products. In the United, permit and contract data from the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management, in addition to several other other data sources, were used as a benchmark to assess harvest, value, employment, exports and imports per capita consumption, and subsistence uses for Many NTFPs.
