Because I know that kids are awesome humans and they deserve respect, I chose to pick beautiful illustrations rather than simplified shapes. I know that your kids have great learning potential, so I am offering them, besides the numbers, maybe a few more animals they don’t have in their mind encyclopedias. The author of the engravings, George Shaw, was well known English botanist and zoologist and from 1806 to 1807 these pictures were used in his scientific lectures at the Royal Institution (The invention of photography is dated few decades later). Nowadays, I find the engravings rather charming and good-natured.
