Synopsis "Surviving Catastrophe: Lessons Learned from the Wedgwood Shooting"

On September 15, 1999, a gunman entered Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, killing seven youth and adults and injuring seven others. It was a tragic...even catastrophic...event for a church to endure. Our church family and friends were devastated. Teenagers were terrorized. Our community mourned. Dr. Al Meredith, the pastor of Wedgwood, was put in the limelight as reporters wanted to know, "Where was God in all of this?" His response, "God is exactly where He has always been - on His throne. He is the Sovereign Lord of the Universe." In the aftermath, God made His presence and power known in the fellowship of believers at Wedgwood Baptist Church. He worked...and continues to work...in individual lives, bringing healing, hope, and strength. Today, Wedgwood is a thriving church with many of the same members who survived the horrific events of 9/15/99. Dr. Meredith has a word of hope and healing to share for anyone who has experienced (or will experience) similar calamity. Through the years, he has provided frequent counsel and wisdom for pastors and church leaders in need of guidance and for grieving victims of such tragedies. His desire is to grant comfort and hope to "those who are in any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God" (2 Corinthians 1:4).
