hannes, condenado por ganarse la vida haciéndose pasar por policía para así cobrar las multas, se encuentra encerrado en la cárcel de isenbüttel, cerca de hamburgo, junto a su compañero de celda, un profesor muy peculiar, condenado por mantener relaciones con algunas de sus alumnas. la llegada de una singular compañía de teatro a la cárcel les brinda una oportunidad inesperada de reconquistar su libertad. junto a otros presos se esconden en el autobús de los artistas y consiguen traspasar los muros de la prisión. el autobús llega a la ciudad de grünau, donde los reciben con entusiasmo. los presos, confundidos entre los actores, deciden seguir el juego e integrarse en la compañía. gracias a su inesperado éxito, hannes y el profesor deberán tomar medidas urgentes para que no los descubran. -
