Synopsis "The Golden Way: The Hebrew Sonnet During the Renaissance and the Baroque (Medieval & Renaissance Texts & Studies)"
Bregman, who is not further identified, traces the evolution of the genre from its origin about 1300 in Italy through several centuries, referring to a 1997 companion anthology that has not been translated into English. She first examines features of the ancient Hebrew sonnet, then looks at the revived version. Shevil ha-Zahav was published in 1985. The translation contains an updated bibliography altered for English readers and drops some technical Hebrew linguistic discussion. The publisher is the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
