Synopsis "The Grounds and Rudiments of Law and Equity Alphabetically Digested... [1751]"
A Maxim-Based Approach to Legal Study Reprint of the second and final edition. The Grounds and Rudiments of Law and Equity contains 526 alphabetically arranged maxims, rules, principles and quotations accompanied by comments and illustrations, along with short essays on the law in general, the sources of law, the nature of equity and the pedagogical value of maxims. First published in 1749, and intended for laymen and law students, it continued the pedagogical tradition of such books as Bacon's Collection of Some Principall Rules and Maximes of the Common Lawes of England and The Use of the Law (1630), Noy's Treatise of the Principall Grounds and Maximes of the Lawes of this Kingdome (1641) and Wingate's Maximes of Reason: Or, The Reason of the Common Law of England (1658). It served as a model for Broome's Legal Maxims, a work that reached a ninth edition in 1924. [xxxiv], 372, [16] pp.
